XI Moscow International Children's and Youth Choir Festival
"MOSCOW SOUNDS" (MICYCF 2010)
XI MICYCF "Moscow Sounds" is held according to federal and inter-departmental programs "Children of Russia", "Exceptional Children", city complex purpose oriented program "The Culture of Moscow", the Festival of Children's and Youth Creative work "Young Talents of Moscow".
The participants are children's and youth choirs, vocal-choir and folk ensembles.
MCYICF "Moscow Sound" is held once in two years. The MICYCF "Moscow Sounds" is a biannual event initiated by the leading institution of Moscow in the sphere of vocal-choir genre the Model Art Collective Music Choir School "Radost".
The nine previous festivals (November 1990, April 1992, February-March 1994, April 1996, April 1998, March-April 2000, April-May 2002, April-May 2004, April-May 2006, April-May 2008) were very successful. The participants represented the USA, Japan, Italy, Germany, France, Austria, Poland, Bulgaria, China, Hong-Kong, Bahama Islands, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Byelorussia, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia, Thailand, Serbia and some other countries and a great number of Russian towns.
The festival is an important event in the cultural life of Moscow and has won a recognition from the outside.
"Moscow Sounds" includes solo and gala-concerts of the choirs - participants in the best concert halls of Moscow, creative and friendship meetings, demonstrative lessons and master-classes, conference on the problems of Children and Youth choir development and the elaboration of young singing voices.
Within the bounds of MICYCF-20l0:
- the International competition of Children's and Youth choirs and vocal-choir ensembles (ICCYC-2010)
- the International Competition of Children's and Youth Choirs and Choir ensembles for the Best performance of Russian and foreign spiritual music (ICSM-2010)
- the International Competition of Children's and Youth folk ensembles (ICYFE-2010)
- International Conductors Competition
Famous Russian and foreign cultural and art workers, composers and prominent choir conductors are invited as members of the jury.
In addition, visiting of the famous exhibitions, museums, theatres, excursions, and some other arrangements, allowing looking through the history, culture and arts of Russia, its memorials, architecture and sights of the capital are arranged for the participants.
The founders of the XI MICYCF "Moscow Sounds" consider the conducting of the Festival in Russia corresponding with the purposes and tasks proclaimed by UN organization in the Appeal to the World Concord. They are confident that the conducting of the festival will help the enrichment of the multinational Russian culture on the basis of equality and mutual respect for the cultural traditions of all the countries and nations of the world.
The Organization Committee of the Moscow International Children's and Youth Choir Festival "Moscow Sounds" invites children's and youth choirs, vocal-choir and folk ensembles to apply for the XI Festival and hopes that the festival will turn into a wonderful Music, Peace and Friendship celebration once again.
1. Aims and tasks of the Festival
to help the world collaboration, to expose the variety of cultures for development of the productive and harmonious life;
to promote friendly and creative contacts, better understanding and collaboration between young people from different countries and nations;
to popularize the children's and youth choir creative work;
to help the revival of Russian national singing traditions, popularization of Russian arts and traditions;
to support the functioning children and youth creative collectives, presenting their success;
to study and generalize the advanced experience in the sphere of choir performance, to make the conditions for the fruitful creative contacts between the specialists in the sphere of children's and youth musical education;
to render methodical and practical help to the specialists, working with children and youth in the academic choir genre;
to awaken patriotic feelings and love for the native land, its culture and arts, beauty and wealth of the nature.
2. Program of the Festival
The opening and closing ceremonies in the form of gala-concerts generally take place in the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall and in the Great Hall of Moscow State Conservatory.
The concerts and competitive listenings of the Festival are held in the halls of the Russian Academy of Music named after the Gnesins, the House of Composers, the Russian State Library, the Rachmaninoff Hall of Moscow State Conservatory, the Tchaikovsky house-museum in Klin and others.
3. Terms of participation in the Festival
a) children's and youth choirs
b) vocal-choir ensembles
c) folk ensembles
3.2. The Organization Committee of the MICYCF-2010 arranges:
concerts and advertising of the participants (gala-concerts, solo-performances, competitions, conferences, master-classes, demonstrative lessons, meetings, posters, bills, invitation cards, booklets, mass-media information etc.) at the expense of the Organization Committee.
basic arrangements of the cultural program (bus excursions around Moscow, visiting the museums, theatres, a circus etc.) - at the expense of the host choir (ensemble) or the choir-participant.
3.3. The registration fee for the participants of the MICYCF-2010 is:
100 Euro - for a foreign group
3000 Rubles - for a group from Russia and the CIS
3.4. The transportation from the permanent residence to Moscow and back is at the expense of the guest choir.
3.5. Accommodation, catering, local transporting are organized either on the agreement with one of the Moscow children's or youth choirs on terms of cultural exchange or at the expense of the guest choir.
At the participant's request the Organization Committee of the MICYCF-2010 may arrange the accommodation in a hotel, catering, service and cultural program at the expense of the choir-participant. In that case a proper application should be sent. The full program payment including accommodation, full board, bus service and cultural program makes up $ 30-50 for person per night. The rate depends on the level of accommodation and the saturation of cultural program.
If the participant is not able to pay the full price for the Festival program, every separate case can be settled either by curtailing the duration of stay in Moscow or partial rejection of the cultural program, or by searching for some Moscow choirs for the cultural exchange etc.
3.6. The Organization Committee accepts the application forms and other papers for the participation in the XI MICYCF until 01.02.2010 in accordance with a set form.
4. The International Competition of Children's
and Youth Choirs and Choir ensembles (ICCYC-2010)
is held within the MICYCF-2010
4.1. ICCYC-2010 is held within the age categories:
A category - Children's choirs or ensembles - children under 18
B category - Boy's choirs or ensembles (before the voice breaking)
C category - Youth male / female choirs or ensembles:
- age limit 21,
- age limit 28,
D category - Mixed youth choirs or ensembles, for age limits - see category C.
4.2. The minimum number of choir singers is 20, the maximum is unlimited. The number of members of vocal-choir ensemble ranges from 12 to 19.
4.3. Every choir-participant should present 12 minutes of pure singing program consisting of one spiritual piece, a classical piece, a modern piece, a folk piece and one of the obligatory pieces:
A, B and C categories:

P. Tchaykovsky "Song about happiness"
D category - no obligatory piece
The competition program must include the pieces of both native and foreign composers.
Not less than 50% of the competition program should be performed a cappella.
4.4. The competition is held in the presence of the jury and the audience.
4.5. The competition is evaluated by the international jury, represented by well-known acknowledged experts, according to the 10-points system:
9-10 points - Laureate of the Festival - I Grade
8 - 8.9 points - Laureate of the Festival - II Grade
7 - 7.9 points - Laureate of the Festival - III Grade
6 - 6.9 points - Diploma of the Festival
The organizers of the festival established some special diplomas for the best performance of classical, folk and modern music, an obligatory piece, and the Grand Prix of the competition.
No appeals may be lodged against the decisions of the jury.
4.6. In case a choir exceeds the effective duration allowed for the competition, the final results will be arrived at by deducting a penalty.
5. The International Competition of Children's and Youth Choirs and Choir ensembles for the Best performance of Russian and foreign spiritual music
(ICSM-2010) is held within the MICYCF-2010
5.1. The ICSM-2010 is held within the same age limits as the ICCYC-2010 (see 4.1.)
5.2. The number of members of the choirs and ensembles (see 4.2.)
5.3. Each choir performs 5 minutes of pure singing program.
5.4. Russian choirs - participants of the ICSM-2008 compete for the best performance of the orthodox music (5 minutes of a cappella), only participating in this competition, they are able to compete for the best performance of the foreign spiritual music (also 5 minutes).
5.5. The competition is held in the presence of the jury and the audience.
5.6. There are no obligatory pieces in the ICSM-2010.
5.7. The choirs - participants of the Moscow International Children's and Youth Choir Festival "MOSCOW SOUNDS", whether they are or they are not participants of the basic competition (ICCYC-2010), are able to participate in the ICSM-2010.
5.8. The jury, represented by the internationally acknowledged experts, evaluates the competition according to the 10-points evaluation systems, (see 4.5.)
The organizers of the festival, together with the organizations helping to conduct the festival have also established the Grand Prix of the competition.
5.9. In case a choir exceeds the effective duration allowed for the singing performance, the final result will be arrived at by deducting a penalty.
6. The International Competition of Children's and Youth folk ensembles (ICFE-2010) is held within the MICYCF-2010
6.1. To participation in MICYCF "MOSCOW SOUNDS" are invited the folklore ensembles focused on ethnographic, and also scenic perusal of a song material, ensembles of a national song and dance, ensembles of small structures (from 5 person), soloists.
6.2. The competitive program should include 3-4 songs of different genres and should not exceed 12 minutes of pure singing. One-two products are executed a cappella. Inclusion in the program two(three)-voice songs with elements of a variation, and also execution of a song with movement is desirable. In the program of performance national games, poetic folklore, fragments of national ceremonies and holidays, ceremonial compositions, household dances (a quadrille, dancing, a round dance) can be used.
6.3. ICFE-2010 is held within the age categories:
A category - Children's groups - age of participants up to 18 years
B category - Youthful groups - age of participants up to 21 years
C category - Youth groups - age of participants up to 28 years
6.4. Criteria of an evaluation of competitive performances:
- Level of mastery (cleanliness declamation, skill to hold pitch (harmony), ensemble, skills two(three)-voice singing, observance of genre and style features of national songs, skilful use of a dialect of region in which the executed song has been extended).
- Conformity of the competitive program to age opportunities of executors.
- Artistry, scenic advantages, originality of the competitive program.
- Appearance of participants of ensemble (it is desirable that suits corresponded to the country or region which songs are executed in the competitive program)
6.5. The competition is evaluated by the jury, represented by experts in folk music, according to the 10-points system (see 4.5.)
6.6. In case a choir exceeds the effective duration allowed for the competition, the final results will be arrived at by deducting a penalty.
No appeals may be lodged against the decisions of the jury.
7. International Conductors Competition
is held within the MICYCF-2010
7.1. The conductors of the choirs-participants of the International Competition of Children's and Youth choirs and ensembles (ICYCC-2010) participate in the International Conductors Competition.
7.2. The jury evaluates the skills of the conductor during the competition performance of the following choir according to the 10 points evaluation system (see 4.5.).

An application form
with a competition program and two pieces for gala-concert.
A list of pieces for the individual program (15 minutes).
The characteristics of the choir's creative activity.
A list of the choir's members, indicating the age.
A brief biography of the leader.
The leader's colour photo.
The group's colour photo.
For choirs - 5 clear copies of the score for each performed piece (competition program).
An audio or video of the choir's performance (not earlier than 2008)
8.1. a) The application form
, characteristics of the choir and its leader, photos, audio or video of the choir's performances, list of pieces for individual program and the list of the choir's members should have been sent by February 1, 2010.
b) The clear copies of the scores for the competitions can be brought to the festival.
